Feelings about Feelings
“I shouldn’t still be triggered about the trauma I faced many years ago”
“I’m angry that I’m still afraid of a recurrence after my doctors said it was all clear”
“I’m frustrated that I am not feeling like celebrating the end of radiation”
Often when we get stuck in feelings, we often overlook the feelings we have about our feelings.
Some therapies call this automatic thoughts, or secondary feelings, but ultimately we need to recognize how we are responding to our innermost needs and what our emotions are saying to us.
